nvdia driver will not see second card.

have driver from graphics team ppa, and no matter what i do, the driver wil not see the card i added to my system. its the exact same card as the first. i tried this command in my terminal.

sudo nvidia-xconfig -multigpu=on -sli=afr

it ddi nothing. the driver still sees only one p106. i want to sli it, like a gtx 1060's sli hack in endgame, but for now i just need the driver to see second card. any command suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

You may need to change the IGP setting in the BIOS to ensure PCIe GPUs get priority, and/or check if either of the FOSS DDX drivers find both cards (by uninstalling the proprietary NVidia driver).

Something odd happened. Someone suggested i try the command

Lspci

It yeilded the result of the pc saying the driver is on both but this access denied thing makes no sense.

Have you installed the 'bridge' between the two graphics cards?.

See the photo in the following link

Theyre 1060's basically so they cannot be bridged. Thats why i said 1060 sli hack.

Edit: i think one of the cards may be bad oe have a bad driver. I went as far as to put the offending card into the primary pcie slot after doing these steps.

1. Turn off system/pc.
2. Remove gpus (black screen on installer if i do not)
3. Reinstall os.
4. Update packages
5. Shutdown
6. Put offending card in primary slot and good one into second.

This is where it gets intresting. Under x0rg opensource no nvdia control panel driver booted fine. I swapped to nvdia driver it gives me the splash screen but then shows the same text errors over and over before even the login prompt. Why the opensource driver works suggests fake card or something is interfering with the card.

That just means you neeed to use 'sudo lspci' to see all info. It has nothing to do with the card's mode of operation.

We can confirm the card itself is bad. I reinstalled the os with the card and it doesnt work at all. Turning off the machine and putting in my good card works no issue. Not even a install needed. I am returning bad one soon if all goes well.
