I've found one domo but working on it for two hours (not debian package for it) trying to compile from sources and installation of MySQL I gave up after compilation had failed.
Also I thought that it is not good idea to run MySQL server on old computer just in order to orginize music!
So if someone knows good music organizer that is able to create playlists manage music by different categories I would be very glad.
If there's no package for domo it doesn't mean you can't install mysql via debian packages. I saw amarok uses a mysql database for media files too. But it's really bloated.
It supports authors, alboms but I need my own categories:
For example "romantic", "rythmic", "salsa", "bachata", "cuban", artist A, artist B etc., "hits of 2005", etc...
I want to be able to do queries by several categories: "romantic salsa" or "rythmic cuban by artist X". Then create playlists.
Maybe even (if there are such option) copy it to protable mp3 player.
After thinking for a while......
I don't care if it will use MySQL or other DB...
Just to be able to manage custom categories and make queries by them:
I want to have my custom categories and manage them, create playlist using queries...
I allmost sure there should be something like that - however all my google attepts fail...
sorry, i don't use them myself. i find it hard to believe you can't make your own categories, though. if that's the case (and i'm not saying it isn't), it seems really lame on the part of the developers.

you know, just looking at rhythmbox (don't have amarok, but i would guess it has a similar feature), i notice that if you select the properties for the song in File/properties, you can change the genre field. then you could sort by that field just by clicking on that column. you can even choose what columns to display in Edit/preferences. you'd have to change the field in each song (but you'd have to do that anyway, or else you could sort right now, right? ), but that can't be any harder than setting up mysql to do the same thing.
and if your music is already sorted by genre, you can just make your own playlists. or else, once the songs are tagged by genre, just sort by genre, select the songs you want, and drag them to the new playlist. isn't all that what you are after?
Actually I've choosen JuK - it is lightweight enough and has lots of features. (not like AmaroK)
Yes genere field is good but sometimes song X can fit 2 or 3 categories.
But for me JuK allows these:
1. Edit Tags - all the fields and correct them according to my needs
2. Drag and Drop entry playlists as files - so I can easily copy playlist to mp3 player
3. I can edit tags in several files by category
4. I can edit comments (and add there what I need - fields I miss)
5. I can perform search by different categories - including comments
6. Its interface is very intuitive - all is done as you might think it should work
7. Its search very fast and I can search by playlists/categories and many other things- even search after search and in very intuitive way
8. So I'll add missing things in comments and make a search on them - even I'll have to do more work
I think it feets allmost all my needs... Actually I allready can make very complex searchies/queries and filtering!!! I think that even 2GB is not too much - so JuK is allmost all I need. (allmost )
Its GUI very intuitive and user friendly.
