multiple desktops

I have several desktops set up on my box, each for different purposes. Is it possible to make each one run off of a different directory?

such as:
Desktop 1 (development): ~/Desktop1/
Desktop 2 (office): ~/Desktop2/
etc...

Is this possible? I would like to be able to write some sort of script so that I can have diffent icons, icon styles, and I would also like to be able to include this in dux linux.

Thanks for any help...

The simple solution is add some users: "develop", "office" etc. after that you can log in as "office" with its own settings, desktop and /home dir.

This is going to depend on your window manager, if I understand your question correctly. They all have different ways of dealing with desktops. What are you using, and what have you tried up to this point?
