Hello everyone,
After starting Metasploitable.vdmk in VirtualBox, I have the message "MP-BIOS bug:8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC" which appears in the console on the screen and thus remains frozen. It is therefore impossible to install Metasploitable in VirtualBox while the "enable IO-APIC" box is checked in the Metasploitable settings of VirtualBox.
Does anyone have an answer/solution please? Thanks

I don't know your bug, but I can throw some light on it. Back in the 1980s you had all sorts of discrete chips on the address & data bus so the CPU could talk out. They were called "Microprocessor Support" chips and one was the 8254, which had 3 physical 16-bit timers.

This is a timer error. I would websearch for it. It's amazing that '8254' survives anywhere in the BIOS and it was certainly obsolete before VirtualBox was written. These days it would occupy 1µm² of some massive chip.

So VB upset the BIOS over a timing issue. That narrows it a bit.

EDIT: IO-APIC - I forget the 'a' but the rest is Programmable Interrupt Controller. Back in those days it was anyhow.

i just went to machine option in virtual box and clicked on reset.
and somehow this worked and metasploitable2 started working....you can try this.....it might work.
