mapping application for GPS information

i'm looking for an application that will make a map of waypoints i recorded with a GPS. i have no way to interface the GPS and the computer, so i'll just type the waypoint information in by hand. is there a linux application that will do this?

openstreetmap

I don't know an application that does exactly what you want, but you could probably get something useful out of openstreetmap.

You'd need to use JOSM, which is an openstreetmap editor to enter your data, then you'd be able to upload it to openstreetmap and view the result on the map once it's been rendered (which can take days).

Goto openstreetmap.org and zoom in to see what the map looks like in your area. JOSM will allow you to put whatever additional features you think worth mapping - such as your waypoints. Best if they would be of general interest though.

At work I make maps on a PC using ArcGIS. It is a very complex process. At home I use Qgis and GRASS. You will need shape files for the locations you want to map and also shape files of the road systems in the area. You might find it easier to use openstreetmaps or check out the mapping APIs in Yahoo or Google maps.
