many vlc dependencies ./configure errors and No package 'fribidi' found
hello *
i have tried in vain to install vlc player (video lan) on fedora 13 and these are the errors i got.
1st fedora tells me i need 'lua' which try to install but tells me its installed like you can see.
To minimise errors i disable all dependencies and lastly it tells me 'fribidi' not found.
I HAVE LEFT OUT THE VERBOSE OUTPUT.
code:
[root@myself vlc-1.1.12]#./configure
configure: error: Could not find lua. Lua is needed for some interfaces (rc, telnet, http) as well as many other custom scripts. Use --disable-lua to ignore this error.
configure: error: Package requirements (fribidi) were not met:
No package 'fribidi' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables FRIBIDI_CFLAGS
and FRIBIDI_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
[root@myself vlc-1.1.12]#
ok John VV, you make fedora 13 look very ahhh i don't know but how is "not useful" for a nice word. the issue am trying to solve is the vlc installation because i have done it on old mint8, and want to try it on fedora.
All dependencies and vlc installed well but there is a conflict error how should i treat it.
i used this "yum install vlc" these are some of the error messages.

you have fedora 11 programs installed on fedora 13
NOT GOOD
what you now have is a Frankensteined install
a mix of TWO or more DIFFERENT operating systems
fedora 11 IS NOT the same as fedora 13 - they ARE different OS's
there should be NO fedora 11 & 12 rpms on fedora 13 (well maybe 3 or 4 fc12 on 13 - it happens )
also please stay current and install fedora 15
or fedora 16 in about two weeks
uninstall ALL fedora 11 & 12 rpms on that fedora 13 install
to see just what is installed
run
Code:
su -
rpm -qa | grep fc11
rpm -qa | grep fc12
and REMOVE every fedora 11 & 12 rpm
PS. this might not be fixable if there are more than about 15 to 20 fedora 11 and 12 rpms installed on the EOL fedora 13
