Making Ark and KDE file manager read ZIP files.

Currently, attempting to open a ZIP file using the KDE file manager causes Ark to put up a pop-up window that displays the following message:

"The utility zip is not in your PATH. Please install it or contact your system administrator."

I know that ZIP file reading programs are on my computer because I can use the command line (KDE terminal) to read those files. I also sense that "installing zip to the PATH" is not at all complicated, but how is it done? The help file for Ark mentions nothing about this. I have Mandrake 9.0.

It turns out that I have already downloaded both zip 2.3 and unzip 5.50 (the latest versions that I could find), isolated the executables and got ready to put them in /usr/bin, only to find later versions of those files already in /usr/bin that were installed with the original Mandrake installation. So, how is Ark connecting with tar but not with zip? My whole intent here is to have the KDE file manager be able to open zip files just like it now opens tar files, which is essentially the same way it opens directories. I don't see where file-roller fits in here. It looks like a replacement for Ark, which wouldn't connect to KDE like Ark would.
