make.conf in Gentoo linux, cpu type variable question..

Hi! I'm building my Gentoo system from stage1,I need to edit my machines cpu type in make.conf file, and it's a Celeron, the manual says that this should look like this:

CFLAGS="-02 -mcpu i686 -march=pentium2"

and at the kernel initialization dmesg shows something like:

CPU0: Intel Celeron (Coppermine) stepping 03

What I'm wondering is: should I change the "-02" to "03" in CFLAGS line, or should Ieave it with "-02"?? Am I thinking rght that that the "-02" sets the stepping or is it somthing different??

thanks for help

i suggest you leave it to O2. Some softwares have problems sometimes with O3.
