LibreOffice: entering text in a two-column single line

In making a new entry on my resume, I applied two-column format to one line, to enter the company name left aligned and the date right aligned. The columns appeared and I entered the name in the left column, but I can't figure out how to get into the right-hand column. The cursor ignores my attempts to click into it.

Tab? (Untried. Will try later)
Note that if you've configured the column/field to be right-aligned, the cursor will be at the right side of the field.
What happens if you click and just start typing?
