irssi

I'm trying to setup irssi the way i want it to act, but i'm having difficulties because Irssi documentation is very messy and unorganized, i can't dig out much out of it.
What i want to do is disable having multiple channels/servers in the same window because it gets really messy, and i loose myself, i dunno what channel/server people are talking from since all the convos are going on inside the same window. I also don't like hidden windows for channels. So what i'm left with is either to run multiple instances of irssi for every channel/server i connect to (bad) or to setup irssi to disable aforementioned options, and use only seperate (split) windows. I can open up a new window with /window new, but i can't find how to connect that window to a server. In BitchX it would be /window server irc.whatever.com but this command just spits out "invalid server tag" in irssi. /window server help and /help window doesn't work either.
So does anybody know if there is good documentation for irssi somewhere, except their homepage? Someone has another good IRC client to suggest? I would stick with old dear BitchX, but it also lacks organized documentation...
Thanks for any help
