Installing/Compiling Kopete 0.8 Beta on Mandrake 9.1

I downloaded Kopete 0.8 beta from the official Kopete site, and I tried to compile it. However, configure gave me the following warning a while before the end:

configure: WARNING: libxml2 not found anywhere, check ftp://xmlsoft.org/ for libxml >= 2.4.8.
checking for xslt-config... not found
configure: WARNING: Could not find libxslt anywhere, check ftp://xmlsoft.org/ for libxslt >= 1.0.7.

However, at the end it said I could run make anyway, so I ran it, and a lot of errors popped up. I tried downloading the libxml2 and libxslt Red Hat RPMs from their website, since I heard Red Hat RPMs may work, but I don't think they did, since configure complained of the same problem. Suggestions?

What does 0.8beta have to do with releases pre-0.62?
