Information about the /var/lib/php/session file

Hi there --

I am doing a check of the filesystems on one of servers, Fedora Core 7, and I wanted to get some information on the /var/lib/php/session file.

Can someone provide information on what it is, and is a file that periodically gets modified or is normally static?

Thanks.

This should be a directory where PHP stores its session files, so it gets modified very often.
