Question If video is loaded in web browser I cannot hear video in VLC or other video player...

Hi.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
If video is loaded in web browser (lets say I have it paused) I cannot hear audio of video in VLC or any other video player.
I think this is also preventing me from using PyRadio properly (the same PyRadio setup works fine in a VirtualBox Xubuntu 11.10).
I think I upgraded mplayer a while back, that may be the problem.
How do I remedy this? I'd appreciate any help, thanks.
