Question Help with commands!

Hello all,
I just finished installing RedHat 7.2 (thanks to some great help from users in this forum) but am already stuck. After I choose to boot into Linux I am confronted with a text log in screen. I thought that I chose the graphical interface but all I get is the text screen. After I enter my user name and psswd I get the $ where I am instructed to enter a command. I've never used Linux before and would like to get into Gnome in the graphical mode. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
M

the questions been answered a thousand times here... you could've found the answer much quicker by searching the forum...

eitherway, run 'startx' to get into gnome or whatever you've set as your default. after that edit the file, as root, in /etc/inittab, and change the line that says

id:3:initdefault
to
id:5:initdefault

if that line is already there, somethign gone wrong. shouldn't be tho.
