help me clarify

If I read the documentation that came in the README file of mplayer correctly, you need to have all of the codecs in the right directory BEFORE compilation(the way I did it). I read all the time, people say just add them(codecs) after installing. Does that work? Can a person download the compiled rpm then add codecs later? I tell people you can not do it this way, am I giving wrong advice?

there is a way, but it requires compiel flags and I beleave a patch (correct me if I am wrong)

or perhapse compiel with ./configure --with-win32-dir=/path (flag may be different, do ./configure --help for exact flag) then it might compiel with support for them even though they are not there
