GStreamer package requirements

I am having trouble install GStreamer. I have done the following:

downloaded gstreamer-0.10.3 source.
./configure gstreamer
got the following error:
checking for GLIB... configure: error: This package requires GLib >= GLIB_REQ to compile

downloaded glib-2.8.5 source
./configure
make
make install

then ./configure gstreamer again got the same message.???

Make sure GLIB is the path because ./configure and make are done as yourself (the user) therefore if it is not in your path you may not be able to see it.
