Github no binaries /easy downloads without login? Github noob

Github seems to not offer binaries without login. It is really annoying so far
when trying to get binaries, compared to sourceforge, web stores, repositories or ftp sites... snapd etc. is also handy...

Do other people feel this way? Have been to a tutorial or two saying to install Desktop clients etc. but don't want too... I've compiled from git at least once before...

Code:
git clone https://github.com/.....
should always work without logging in.

Same for downloading (sometimes precompiled) releases straight, be it through command line or web interface.

What repo are you having problems with?

Thanks for the reminder in Linux. I think the binaries they are called releases for github, I was having this problem for windows but found gitfiend in the windows store and is platform independent, . I found you can sometimes look for the green clone or download button from a web browser...

will mark as solved

"Binary" suggests compiled software; a "release" can be that, but not necessarily.

I'm still not sure what exactly you're refering to. I can't imagine that github wants to make it hard for their developers to distribute their software.

That sounds absolutely horrible.

That button is an URL that could also be used via wget or curl or even a package manager. Again: making people login to use that would be extremely counter-productive.

All in all, knowing what binaries this is about would really help.

Github, you can simply copy/paste what you want into a text editor.
Example:
https://github.com/pytube/pytube
https://github.com/pytube/pytube/tree/master/pytube
https://github.com/pytube/pytube/blo...tube/parser.py

A binary is a compiled package/software. Wouldn't you rather look at the code first? How do you know what it is?
