I have been using kde plasma for a while on slackware and recently I wanted to change the I/O priority and priority of a game and that control pannel function is missing from kde-systemmonitor.
I was able to find source code for ksysguard but it no longer builds. I have the binary off my old install but not the .so file not sure if I were to find a old version of packages and scalp those files out of it if it would even run right.
If they are gonna update something they should not remove features like that. Actually when I was playing Final Fantasy 14 it would only run right if you dragged the I/O priority bar over pretty far. Seems like something Microsoft would do.
Is there a way to roll back kde 5.23.5 back to having KDE System Guard as the task manager untill they get their act together?
Edit also the new task manager when you try setting a priority like they show(low medium high with no other options) does not ask for my password for root like the old one used to so that I could change it on the fly.
This would apply to any distribution running KDE plasma. Since they removed the feature in a new updated control pannel. I just want to know if one can back compile or make the old utility work since it's still the same KDE major version and the underlying lib file still does the same stuff just with a few functions hidden to the user now. I dont remember what version they updated it at since I wasnt using the feature for a while and not playing certain games.

That KDE have removed the unmaintained ksysguard tool is relevant to any distribution, but whether/how one can "back compile or make the old utility work" has potential to be distro-specific - certainly given its source-based nature I would expect there to be more people in the Slackware forum capable of answering that question.

The way back might involved compiling KDE yourself, which would be non-trivial. Better to check the slack forums first and see if there is a known solution or a slack specific revert package.
Yeah I was coming to that conclusion, problem is I cant find any old version slackware current packages when I search google for kde/ksysguard-5.22.0-x86_64-2.txz which I think was the version it was at when they dropped it, I probably could just get them directly and install the binaries or just recompile just those slackbuilds.
But since I cleaned up my local mirror and hucked my current dvd-roms from various dates just before 15.0 came out, finally went to use ksysguard to change a process priority and was boned.
I usually keep several shades of current stashed and other linux files, cheet sheets, snippets etc in my archive. I guess it's my bad for not keeping every little thing just incase. I shall now be even more of a pack rat in the future due to this LOL.
Building KDE may not be that bad long as I know the order to build in since its all SlackBuilds. And actually as you were posting that I was installing a vmware with no KDE on it to use for that purpose.
I suppose I could use the console method to change a priority but its nice to be able to slide the bar and change it then alt tab back in. Also ksysguard would ask for my root password. System monitor simply just says permission denied and doesnt even offer a elevate privelege log in screen.
I will keep chipping away at it if I find out how to do what I need I will post the solution here and also check back to see if somone else has a link to the files I need or specific versions I should download.
I will move over to slackware forum after this post and post a new question.
