gentoo alternative (not distro)

are there any other good graphical file browsers besides Gentoo?

the reason i asked is because I installed Gentoo from source and it put a bunch of crap in my "/" directory (like configuration files and crap), is it supoed to do this? is there any way to make it not do this? and if there isnt i'd like an alternative.

im in fluxbox, if that matters.

during ./configure, you can add a prefix of where to install this sort ofthing

you could do

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/gentoo/etc

or some such

./configure --help
for options.
