gconf error

Hi, anyone know anything about this:
I get the following error message on start up,

Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://www.gnome.org/projects/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: IOR file '/home/dad1/.gconfd/lock/ior' not opened successfully, no gconfd located: No such file or directory 2: IOR file '/home/dad1/.gconfd/lock/ior' not opened successfully, no gconfd located: No such file or directory)

There is a file .gconfd/lock/ior, I can see it. It contains a long row of numbers.
To be sure, I downloaded Gconf and installed it.

Gnome will not work on my machine. I use KDE, if I try and start up using Gnome, I get only errors, big red crosses and no text at all.

I get no file system errors on booting.

What's wrong???

I had the same problem, I don't know why, but the solution is the following. As root:

cd /tmp
rm -rf *

The above will remove all the files in the temporary files directory, wich will remove the gnome-lockfile.
