Gaim: Password rejected when logging into yahoo. (error number 29)

Hey everyone

I'm having a problem with gaim where when I try to log into yahoo it either rejects my password or gives me an error 29. After removing the .gaim folder and reinstalling trying to fix the issue I decided to restart into windows and run gaim from there (I use gaim everywhere). It did the exact same thing there too.

I'm assuming at this point the problem isn't on my end, could someone please confirm this by telling me if they can log onto yahoo through gaim? Also, I did try logging into yahoo through the unix version of yahoo messenger and that worked fine.

Thank you

I have heard that Yahoo changes something about their code so that emulators such as GAIM won't work. I suggest you go to this site http://messenger.yahoo.com/messenger/download/unix.html and download Yahoo's "official" version that works. However, when I installed it on my Mandrake 10 Official machine, I got a segmentation fault during installation. I have a question posted in this section about that very problem. If you have the same problem, check out my thread. Best of luck to you.

Good day!

Mike

The latest version of Gaim (0.78) fixed the Yahoo protocol. If you're using a lower version, then you should upgrade it, gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

Hope this helps.

Yeah man, if you're running 0.78 right now... I dare you to log out and log back in. I just dare you.

kaega2, I tried logging in and logging out and then logged in again and my Gaim 0.78 works flawlessly. I'm just not sure what's causing your Gaim not to recognize the Yahoo protocol. Try to uninstall first then install.

Hope this helps.

It's because of the installation options... At the page where you select the shortcuts'n'stuff disbale EVERYTHING (Gnome/KDE shortcuts, a.s.o incluing the .xinitrc option). It also happened to me... this was the only way to fix it

I can't login to Yahoo using Gaim for Win32 0.78 either.

I don't get the error about the password, just that it can't log me on.

The fix for Trillian clients (in the short term) is to change the host to "scs.yahoo.com, port 5050" - try it on Gaim to see if it works.

I checked and I'm already using port 5050, the only difference was that I was using scs.msg.yahoo.com instead, I tried yours to make sure that you didn't have a typo but that didn't work either.

And Saklay, I notice that you're living in the Phillipines. I suspect that the account and server that you're using hasn't changed anything yet and that's why you can't connect. There's nothing wrong on my computer, same thing happens in both windows and linux plus all these people are having the same problems in multiple programs.

gaim .79 fixed the problem

yahoo does this to block other clients on their networks, trillian users were unable to connect also

Hello!
I've got the same problem here.....I was completely unaware of the connection problem of kopete (0.8.3) to yahoo, tried several times connecting to yahoo with it but it keeps on asking for the password untill such time that it stops asking password but still it cant connect to the yahoo messenger server. I decided to load gaim (0.8) and tried to login again with the same yahoo account....but to surprise I cant login anymore! Few minutes before I tried using kopete gaim works perfectly but now Im greeted with this unknown error 29. In addition, I also cant login anymore to my yahoo mail, whether im in windows or linux.

Anyone with genius mind here?
