Fluxbox error

I have compiled fluxbox-0.1.14 from source and installed the slack package from the oficil mirror.
Both installs give me the same error:
Code:
BaseDispaly::BaseDisplay: connection to X server failed.
Fluxbox : unknown error.
I tried searching for the error on the net, but this amaziling helpful error( "unknow error") didnt give me much insight .

Has anyone had a similar error on Slack 8.1 running on a Celeron 600Mhz??

Thanks

i'm guessing you're just typing that into a console without actaully having X running? that's the error you get if you do that certainly. create a file called .xinitrc in your home directory and then just insert the line "fluxbox" into it and run startx

Thanks, so I just didnt have X running
Now, does anyone know how to change links in flux? I have mozilla1.0 and 1.3b running, but flux only has 1.0 on its menu. On gnome all I have to do is change the icons properties.

(from memory) - isn't there a file in ~/.fluxbox called 'menu' that you can just edit?
