Firefox window isn't displaying properly and crashes
Everywhere but the actual webpage is transparent in the firefox window. I can't really see the main toolbar with file, edit, tools, etc. It crashes when I try to click add-ons in the tools drop down menu. It also makes my computer run slower and freeze up. Thinking it could be a bug from a recent update not sure because I think it started after tabking or another add-on was updating. I'm using firefox through wine right now. Using Ubuntu 9.10.
Have you tried either disabling or removing those addons ?
In the past I've encountered similar behavior with Firefox when I started using having too many addons or open tabs. And resource hungry java and javascript websites.
It was simply a matter of an older machine not being up to the task.
Just curious, but why use Firefox through wine, when there's an FF for each OS anyhow? Or am I missing some key detail?
haha, the OPs last sentence was a little crazy. I think because the one provided by repos is the one having the problems and the OP left out periods... maybe... bcuz hoo needz propr gramrz tho neway amiryt??/1
Anyway, does everything look normal if you start firefox using "firefox -safe-mode"? If not, then I think you should backup your bookmarks, then apt-get purge firefox, then apt-get install firefox, then install your add-ons one-by-one, restarting the browser after each install.
Disabling the add-ons did it thank you slightlystoopid as I didn't know how to do this because ff kept crashing when I would try -safe-mode worked. I uninstalled all add-ons then reinstalled the ones I needed no more problems must have been a bug when one of them was upgrading. I was using ff in wine because the one from the repos was crashing so slightly was right grapefruit. The only reason I had ff in wine is because I can't view heroes on NBC.com and some other streaming sites because some sites only let windows users view their content apparently which is pretty crazy, anyway thanks for replying so quick. And I fixed my original post the last sentence was retarded before.
Oh yeah and it was a theme that was causing problems midnightfox to be exact, I think the new version is actually buggored as when I tried to reinstall it the same thing happened just using the old version for now

You should be able to change Firefox's user agent so that it appears to be on windows or whatever you want.
