Encoding to H.264 video codec?


Are there any apps that do this under Linux?

I was hoping the latest mplayer / mencoder package would do it? Maybe it does, my command line isn't that strong.


H.264 is a new method of encoding video with basically gives you a much higher image quality at teh same bitrate.

I think mencoder will do it with x264 installed. I'm going to try that

Not quite sure how to install x264. It has a make file but I don't know where to go from there? There is no make install?

Anyone know please?
