Call me crazy, but I actually like to read e-books in vim! In gvim, I set the font really big, and some soothing colors. It's just plain convenient for searching, making notes, etc.
If me e-book is in other formats, I just convert them to plain old ascii, and I have a perl script that makes the text fit in 80-columns, and the lines double-spaced.
If you aren't very vi-savvy, though, it would probably not be the best choice.
