We have 2 sites with HP c7000 BladeSystems with BL460c and BL680c blades, with Qlogic QMH2462 HBAs, and running RHEL4u7. In the primary site, we're using an EMC CLARiiON CX3-40 for our boot LUNs. We've configured MirrorView/Async to replicate all the LUNs to our secondary site, which has a CX3-80. We then take snaps (or clones, tried both) of the LUNs, fracture them, and try to boot off of them, but this yields the following errors:
Code:
Scanning logical volumes
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...
No volume groups found
Activating logical volumes
Volume group "VolGroup00" not found
ERROR: /bin/lvm exited abnormally! (pid 891)
Creating root device
Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 6 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
Switching to new root
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
I have a feeling this is similar to the problem described here:
http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-17660, but we're using PowerPath and not device-mapper-multipath, so the solution listed doesn't help.
Some more details -
- Boot LUN is 32GB, with a 500MB ext3 partition for /boot and a 31.5GB LVM partition.
- I'm able to boot into linux rescue mode using a CentOS 4.7 ServerCD and I can actually mount all the filesystems, including the LVM stuff (doesn't even need an fsck), so my LUNs appear to be properly replicated.
Any thoughts?
