CVS PSERVER setup woe - Fedora Core 2

Hi all, please help someone...

I've setup a CVS server, built from source... but setting up the repositry doesn't seem to want to happen. (subsistuted obvious stuff, machine name, domain)

$cvs login
Logging in to serveraul@linuxbox.mydomain.com:2401/usr/local/newrepos
CVS password:
cvs login: authorization failed: server linuxbox.mydomain.com rejected acces to /usr/local/newrepos for user paul
$

So... paul is in a group called cvs that owns the repositry directory and everything in it with rwx access. paul is in the passwd file using a password created by the perl script as in the cvs manual. There is no writers file. The readers file only has anonymous in it.

The kicker is that I can log onto this useless empty repositry using anonymous with no complaints.

I'm using Fedora Core 2, with the cvs built from source downloaded today.

Has anybody got a dummies guide to what I may be missing out on here? I've followed the manual, and another guide too, but I just can't get it working right.

Any links / info / success stories(!?) would be very welcome. I just want to get down and do some development and stop configuring this damn linux box!

Cheers,

Paul
