CVS login aborted - no such file or directory

Hello,

I'm currently learning CVS, and I'm trying to login for the first time. I've already set CVSROOT in the .bashrc file using the command "export CVSROOT=/home/aaron/cvs/local", which seems fine. When I try to login, though, I get an error "cvs [login aborted]: /home/aaron/cvs/local/CVSROOT: No such file or directory". This directory does exist, and I've made sure I'm logged in as myself (aaron, not root). I can also echo out CVSROOT, so I know it does exist. Anyone have an idea as to the cause of this?

Thanks,
Aaron

What does 'ls -ald /home/aaron/cvs/local/CVSROOT' show?
