Is it possible to customise an ISO of Ubuntu, and if so how.
I do a number of installs and add the same files to /usr/src every time. It would be nice if I could add these to an iso so they are already on the machine when I build it.
I think you are looking for a piece of software called Remastersys (google it - it's on sourceforge). It is very well documented and relatively easy to use. I used it to create a custom ubuntu distro for connecting to my corporate VPN and automatically launch an RDP session. Works like a charm!
I would concur with the recommendation to use remastersys as I have also used it a number of times with Ubuntu and some of its derivatives. There are different versions for Debian and Ubuntu so get the Ubuntu. Should be in the repositories for Ubuntu. If not just google, you may need to add a repository to get it. I haven't tried it with 11.10.
For mass installations of Debian/Ubuntu (without user-input) I used the preseeding approach described here and here. A steeper learning curve than using Remastersys, but in my eyes worth the effort.
