Question Creating a shortcut with root permissions in Gnome/Ubuntu

Hi

I want to create a launcher icon on my desktop in Ubuntu to open a folder (/var/www) so that I can read and write php files in there.

Although I have a shortcut, it is only read only access.

How can I change this so that I have full access, and then so I also have full access when I open a file thereafter in that folder (such as /var/www/index.php) - the files are opening in a text editor which is fine.

Thanks!

You don't want to go editing your web files as root that could potentially make apache very unhappy You should make your current user be a member of the same group as apache is and make sure the permissions are right for that kind of setup.

good luck!

Thanks - I found out how and altered the permissions through Terminal (giving me permissions), and checked and all is working through Apache.
