console command change wallpaper

I've asked this question on the fedora forum but so far no luck so I'm trying here too.
I'm running fedora 20 and I want to change the desktop wallpaper by one-shot command line. I'm using gnome desktop. The commands I've tried are:
Code:
$ gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri "file:///path/to/my-pic.jpg"

$ dbus-launch gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri "file:///path/to/my-pic.jpg"

$ feh --bg-fill /path/to/my-pic.jpg
all three command work in that they do designate the new wallpaper as ready but it doesn't change it. The only way to change the wallpaper is to log out and back in again. If I do the wallpaper change by clicking within the gui it does change it straight away but I need to change it live using command line without having to log out and in again. Can anyone help with this?

I don't wish to upgrade to the most recent version, I'd like to get this working on the version I have.

i don't use fedora, but i know that much:
you are using an unsupported version. of course you are free to do that until the end of time, just don't expect to get any support.
