consistent look through gtk apps

good day! im running gnome on my debian system and was wondering if there's a way to get a consistent look'n'feel look through my gtk apps... that is, my theme seems to apply to some apps (firefox among others) but some other apps just look plain ugly... dunno why, but my guess is they are likely to have been linked against older gtk versions.... any clue? thanks in advance!

Probably some of your apps are using gtk1. You may need to install gtk-theme-switch to try and make them look like gtk2 apps. Not all gtk2 themes will work with gtk1 apps.

well the logical answer would be that some are gtk+ apps, while others are gtk2 apps. these use different themes and libraries, so there's no way (AFAIK) to make them have exactly the same theme, just use standard tools like gtk-theme-switch to make them as close as possible, or check if the gtk+ versions have a newer gtk2 replacement.
