ClamAV - clamscan -options

Hi,

I just installed clamav on my centos6.4 system and it works as expected (though a bit slow). I plan to let it scan during nighttime when I'm most likely to be sleeping already (around 05.43). This is where I will run a cronjob.

Code:
13 5 * * * root freshclam
43 5 * * * root clamav -r -i ?????
My questions:
1. I dualboot, is it possible to scan the win (ntfs) partition too?
PS. I run win7 because I got a particular piece of scientific software I need which is not OSX/Linux, it's disconnected from inet, so no need to tell me I run crap on my system I am very aware.

2. I want to scan my entire Linux system, but exclude files like .mkv, .avi, .mp3 and so on (mediafiles), because they're not executables and I have a lot of those.

3. Any other tips/hints/directions you have concerning the use of ClamAV? I read somewhere that Clam is more directed towards mailservers and such, will this be sufficient to keep my system clean or should I co-install something else?

Regards,

For your cronjob, change
Code:
43 5 * * * root clamav -r -i
to
Code:
43 5 * * * root clamscan -r -i
In your clamav installation, there are documentation files (/usr/share/doc/clamav-docs/ on my Debian 6) which you should read.

1. Should work. In the clamav doc, section 6.2
Supported formats and features, lists several micro$oft file formats which clamd will scan.

2. I didn't see anything in the doc which allows to blacklist file types from the scan.

3. I read somewhere that it is ill advised to run more than one antivirus application on the same system.

Thanks.

Didn't find the manual itself much help, however this site I just found gave a nice overview of the parameters.

http://linux.die.net/man/1/clamscan

Should give me plenty of options to mess around with.

Code:
--cross-fs=[yes(*)/no]
Scan files and directories on other filesystems.
Hope this means what I think it means.

Just mount the ntfs partition and scan as usual

To use clamscan from Linux on a windows partition, just mount the ntfs partition and scan as usual.

I use
Code:
clamscan -ir /path/to/scan/
-i is for show Infected
-r is recursive

If this "dual boot" Windows partition is not mounted in Linux, you will have to mount it to scan it.

dated post. oops.
