my hosting is on a linux computer. is there a way for me to change the default ssh port which is 22 port into 443?? if so where is the tut for me to do it. i'm new to linux.. thank you in advance and if i'm posting in the wrong forum please move it to the proper one..
You can also make it listen on both if you want, just so the standard port is accessible.. unless your trying to create a "security thru obscurity" type change which does nothing for you or your machine..
this host server is not mine it is a paid server will they allow me to do it?
if my host doesnt let me change port from 22 to 443 is there any other host that will allow me to change the port? if u know of one please let me know.
well i'm renting the server to host my sites so does it mean i have the right to change the default port 22 into 443??? maybe i should jus emaill them and ask them to change it for me.
If it's a dedicated server, they should allow you to admin it (more or less). If it's a shared server (like any <$50/mo server is likely to be), then no. They will not let you change it, because it would affect other customers. Again, why do you want to change the port?
