Best Linux Software to annotate/add text to Pictures?

Hi,

I need to add text to jpgs or pngs, but in the end also just have a picture that has the added text.

So far I have checked out Krita and Gimp and they both are not really easy for this, especially when you need the text outlined to make sure it is legible.

Are there other tools that you know? Again, please don't mention the GIMP, I will ignore all answers to that.

XnViewMP.

From the Tool bar select "Image" and then "Draw."

Darktable has the ability to insert your own text, or add your own custom watermark.
