Question banner printing - printing across multiple pages - in Linux, any suggestions?

[also posted to http://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/50390]

I'm trying to print some large characters/letters from Inkscape.

See example file at http://alicious.com/openclipartorg/, is http://alicious.com/wp-content/outli...ownpottery.svg

I want the letters to span multiple pages of A4 printed in landscape.

Just wondering how others would go about doing this - producing the SVG file is a couple of minute job but I can't readily see how I can take this SVG file and span it across multiple pages for printing.

Banner printing would be an option but the only settings I can find for that require me to make the image on (say) an A0 page and then select the particular sheets to print, inevitably their will be a break down the horizontal and vertical centres and so all the letters will be split.

Any ideas ...?

If using "lp" maybe you could try the option:

-o scaling=number

Scales image files to use up to number percent of the page. Values greater than 100 cause the image file to be printed across multiple pages.

Ref. http://linux.die.net/man/1/lp-cups

Dont know if this will work, never tried it myself.

Note: Inkscape will "Save as" encapsulated postscript.

Thanks for that suggestion ... think I'll have to do some maths to work out the best fit and ensure that the horizontal span doesn't push me over to a vertical span too ... but seems to be an option. Would prefer something more GUI, anyone actually done this?
