apt-get install bind9? all sorted?

I'm currently using NTL. It's appaling. Truely appaling.

The connection is fine, but their DNS servers seem to disappear randomly about 50% of the time.

I'm thinking about setting up my own DNS server so I don't have to rely on their shoddy service. I'm on ubuntu at the moment, so is it simply a matter of:

'apt-get install bind9'

and then set all my other machines to direct DNS to this machine?

More likely apt-get install bind
For my local machines I have a dns caching server. That uses my server for local stuff and the ISP dns servers are forwarders to Internet stuff.
I find it very nice to use webmin for setting up dhcp and dns.

Well, my problem is that NTL DNS servers are completely hopeless. I really need my own independant solution. Completely seperate from NTL.

Does anyone know what bind actually does? Will it forward all requests it can't handle to root DNS servers, and keep a cache? Or what? This is just what I'd imagine it might do. I'm not really that informed on these matters.

Thanks for the reply.
