We all know that most viruses are written for windows, but I have heard of a few written for linux. Does anyone know of any combination of software that will detect a virus and tell me the I.P. it came from. I can get past most routers and proxy's, so I just want to be able to detect a virus infiltrating my system and know the ip of the sender. If the virus is downloaded from a file sharing user then I can assume they got it from someone else, but if I get a virus from a site, I want to know its IP so that I can unleash horror that will make the trojan, worm, virus maker weep in agony.
Trojans have cost me more than time getting them of my my system. I want to find a way to surf the web and be able to trace any site that hosts a trojan than seriously make them pay. I want to see heads role. I just want anti-virus software that pins the IP of the site hosting the trojan and then nail the admin with a thousand years at camp x-ray. Anyone who creates a virus or a trojan that infects my system can forget going to court, you can count on me creeping into your bedroom one night. Websites that host trojans that try to force people into paying money to get rid of sh*t you create, you better be secure, because if you think modern laws apply to me, then hire face insurance and pre-hire a plastic surgeon. One more trojan and I burst.
Anyway. Anyone know of any anti-virus software for linux that tells you the IP of the link?
I don't understand your problems with viruses and worms while running Linux. AFAIK, there are less than 20 that can affect Linux and none are in the wild (patches released within a few hours of discovery, you know).
Offer a reward like Microsoft does and you might catch one or two.
A nameserver will translate a link name to an IP number, but there is probably a lot of header spoofing that leads nowhere.
I noticed that when I tried to rate your help, it gave me a error, check it out. My rating was going to be good by the way. Got a lot of info from the links.
I never knew that there were so few viruses written for linux. I understand now that user priveleges would stop it doing much damage. I guess security is a more an issue than dodgy programs.
I can understand now why you misunderstood me a bit. I was using Windows till a few months ago and kept on getting virus and trojan problems. I should have included in the post that these problems were when I was using Windows.

They must have changed some of the scripts on me. For ratings, press the button with *affero at the bottom of the post.
Security is a state of suspicious, not a virus scanner or program.
Originally posted by HadesThunder I am interested as to whether there will be no virus issue when Linux tops MS? Not as bad I expect but will it be an issue?
I doubt that it will be nearly as serious as with Windows.
Of course there are always idiots that insist on running as root, especially when newbies, which makes a machine almost as insecure as Windows.
Amazingly, as long as I ran Windows, I never caught anything that I was aware of.
Of course I used Pegasus Mail and Netscape and when Mozilla was developed, I started using a lightweght version, Phoenix.
I was nowhere near as wise. I just figured download everything till I get a virus then backup data and reinstall. That was okay till I could not reinstall 98 because my filesystem got corrupted. Many probs with Win after that. Anyway tried clicking affero and got the same page. Details below.
ratings::init() URL 'r' argument is not a valid user

It could be just as big as Windows, except fewer viruses would have an effect . Viruses are written for Windows not because of the lax security, but because Windows is very popular, and they can make a big impact by infecting 100000+ Windows computers instead of infecting 10 Linux computers.
