ALSA OSS Emulation

Sound seemed to be working fine but OSS emulation is really slow making the sound jerky. I would guess it's something to do with my new 2.6.9 Kernel with OSS emulation compiled in, ALSA docs mentioned something about working better as modules, but I'm not really sure. What could be the problem?

Thanks.
