Abiword .. thoughts ? worth the time>?

Hello.

I am a new linux user and use FC3.
I think that Open Office is fine ..but... maybe a little slow on opening ...

I am liking Abiword ... since it is simple ... and fast it appears.. .my question.. is ..since it is not in the yum update for fedora... is it worth me .. spending time working and learning it ? or should I stick to OO?

Abi word really handle MSword Template poorly since I have tried to open a few... but I wanted some people experience or opinions.

Thanks
T

Depends what you want to do. If you need to start documents from scratch, Abiword is neat. It's fast and full-featured word processor. If you need, on the other hand, more fancy stuff as spreed-sheets or creating presentations, OpenOffice is your best bet. It's a full-featured Office package.

Now if you need 100% compatibility with MS Office, I'd say, neither. Use MS Office with Crossover Office or Wine... it works just fine, really. I've studied computer programming and my teacher used to send me some word docs created with MS Word and it was a big mess when opening it up with Open Office.

I don't blame Open Office or even Abiword for that matter. It's MS style of making things non-portable-at-all.
