A LibreOffice Writer question

I run Ubuntu 14.04 and now I use LibreOffice Writer. I have trouble figuring out how to number pages. In Help it says: "Choose Insert - Footer" There is no INSERT anywhere. I need help.

Thanks, - A.

Click on the Insert submenu in the title bar and then click on Page Number.

two things here...first insert a footer:
Quote:
Insert->Header and Footer->Footer->Default Style
or a style of your choosing. This sets up the footer. Now add the page number and refer back to Bill's post
Quote:
Insert->Field->Page Number

In my experience with OOo/LO, header and footer creation is most easily managed under the Format-->Page dialog.

I agree with Frank. I'd also suggest you get the free book

Awesome!

Dear fellows! The problem is I cannot find INSERT. I've gone through all buttons and knobs and cannot find anything even remotely related to Insert. I have a file now open in LibreOffice Writer. Let's start with the top row on the buttons and go from Left to Right:

New=>Open=>Save=>Document as Email=>Edit File=> etc, etc, etc.

I won't go over all of them here, but trust me I've done it many times already. Where is it hidden?

Format is another button I've never seen. I actually found "Format" but as a paper format. The choice is letter, legal, long bond, etc.

I MUST NUMBERING MY PAGES BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW.

Thanks, - A.

As well as the manual (did you download it?) there's the help option in the program. I clicked on that, then the Index tab, and then entered "page number" as the search term. That showed a whole section headed Inserting/defining/formating.

@beachboy2, thank you for the screen shot, but I have a totally different frame. I can invoke LibreOffice Writer either for a new document or by opening my existing document and the picture on top is completely different. I took a screenshot but now I cannot remember how to post it here. I've done it before but since I use this forum very infrequently, I forgot the basics. BUT MY PICTURE IS DIFFERENT! I wonder is it because my Ubuntu 14.04 is LTS? So, it looks I cannot number my pages and it is for a patent application, he-he.

@BillF59 - my frame is totally different. I don't have the Insert, I therefore do not have this drop-down menu.

You appear to be missing the main menu bar. That's sometimes a problem with LibreOffice.

See here for example: http://askubuntu.com/questions/21949...in-libreoffice
