I have installed Ubuntu server in virtualbox and on my laptop I am using window 7 as host OS. when I am trying to connect to guest installed on virtualbox using putty. It gives me error "Network error : Connection time out" and from host OS when I am pinging guest ip address, first it shows "host is unreachabe" and then it gives "request time out".

Configration:

I installed virtualbox on laptop and configured virtualbox as below.
Created "Host only adapter"
virtualbox -> file-> preference -> network -> host only adapter and give ip address as "192.168.56.1" network mask as "255.255.255.0"

In the network adapter for virtualbox, two network adapter i have created 2 network adapter
1) NAT for connecting internet for guest (guest is connected to internet and I am able to install new package into guest)
2) Host only adapter: for connecting host to guest (want to access guest service using port 22).

I have 3 interface in the /etc/network/interfaces
eth0 dhcp --> having ip address 10.0.2.15 (default)
eth1 static --> having ip address 192.168.56.101
lo --> loopback interface

I am able to ping from the guest to all the IPs but not from the Host. Also I am not connect to IP 192.168.56.101 using Putty from the host.

Request you please help me to solve this problem.

Have you checked whether there might be firewall rules on the guest blocking the traffic?
