Trying to get Apache 2.2 to do what Apache should do

Which is: Serve webpages.

Background: Been running 1.3 and 2.0 for awhile with multiple virtual websites. They work fine, I know where the needed conf files are, etc. I decided I wanted 2.2, mainly for larger file transfers. I downloaded the source, /.configure --prefix=/usr , make, make install, then the /usr/bin/apachectl, and thats where the journey begins...
  • Why were the confs moved to /usr/conf, and not in /etc/apacheX like previous versions?
  • What do I need to change to migrate my current 2.0 conf over to 2.2?
  • Does anybody have a guide for upgrading Apache 2.0 to 2.2?
Running Slackware -current, kernel 2.6.16.22
