Cool sendmail deferred: Connection refused

Hi

I'm posting this again because the previous post seems to not have appeared.

I've setup my email system on fedora 5 with the following: sendmail, dovecot, squirrelmail with authentication against w2k3 active directory.

Email works fine except for inbound mail from the internet. They come into the mail queue (/var/spool/mqueue) and don't seem to get distributed to the mailboxes.

sendmail -q -v gives:
... Deferred: Connection refused by abc.com

/var/log/maillog shows:

May 4 09:31:49 mailgate2 sendmail[24266]: l3UB91eZ003231: to=<abc@abc.com>, delay=3+21:22:48, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=10952815, relay=abc.com., dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by abc.com.

Any help would be appreciated

Cool

Hello

I've isolated the above problem to be a name resolution thing. If I send a mail to myself@abc.com, (assuming abc.com is my domain) the mail gets to the queue and no further. If I send to myself@hostname.abc.com, then the mail is delivered.

Also, if I open squirrelmail and send a mail to "myself" (without the @abc.com), then the mail is delivered, but the From field says myself@hostname.abc.com.

However, I'd appreciate suggestions. Thanks

Just to let you know the problem seems to be sorted. I had to put my domain name in /etc/mail/local-host-names

That was it! Thanks for looking.
