Postfix (mysql) automatic fall over
Hey,
Just thought I would check something with you guys. I have been running a mail server Postfix using MySQL for accounts etc at the company I work for. A new guy joined our company the other week and I tasked him with setting up a secondary mx server which would hold emails if the first one went down until it returned.
This idea has now grown a bit and we are now looking at setting it up as replicated server which will take over if the first one goes down. He wants to use GlusterFS as the storage for Postfix to replicate all the emails across both servers. He then wants to use a Master-Master replication in MySQL for account details. For the switch over to work he is planning to set up two NS records for the main domain, one to each server. They will then resolve different A records for the same domain, so if the first server goes down then the client would contact the second NS server for the A record and return the backup server's IP address.
It all looks good on paper when I have researched it but I have no previous experience myself using GluserFS. Is this a reliable way to accomplish what we are trying to do?
I havent actually done a Master-Master MySQL replications either but I would assume this works fairly reliable as it is MySQL we are talking about.
Any thoughts and feedback on this setup would be appreciated. I might concider using some sort of DNS round robin if the replication is reliable.
Thanks!
