I need to be using MSSQL in Linux but if i used virtualization so i could use the MSSQL on a Windows system would the sources and programs of the Linux system be able to connect through to the MSSQL on the Windows system and vice versa without any problems?
One will be the server(linux) and the other (MSSQL) will be on a vm on the server(linux), so again there should be no issues with the server being able to access the sql sources on the vm and vice versa?
You would need to install Windows as guest under VM to install MS SQL. And if you do not want windows, My SQL or PostgreSQL could do your job.
But if you must, then you will need to have complete OS as guest under VM before you can install MS SQL.
Distribution: Debian 5 - Slackware 13.1 - Arch - Some others linuxes/*BSDs through KVM and Xen

Just in case, let's clarify some concepts:
MSSQL *will not* run on Linux. It only runs on Windows (and maybe another propietary OS, AFAIK)
Said that, you could use virtualization, and run *Windows inside of Linux* - A virtual machine with Windows and MS SQL installed

¿Can you "access the sql sources" if you have a "real" (physical) network with one physical Windows machine and one physical Linux machine? Well, make the net and the Win machine virtual, and it will be the same thing (if you've configured your virtual network properly, of course)
