Monitoring Health of Compaq Proliant ML370?

I just picked up two Proliant ML370's (first generation, PIII-733Mhz).

Now, I know that HP has the whole Insight Manager, but what about simple health monitoring like fan speed/status, power supply status, and temperature?

I checked /proc/acpi, but couldn't find any information on the fans or ps's and thermal_zone/THM0/temperature shows 8 C which CAN'T be right.

Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? I did a few Google searches, but HP seems to list no less than 100 pieces of software to do this, most of which are new and have a web interface. I'm only interested in CLI, specifically something that I can write a Python script to parse.

Another option, though a bit more of a pain, is SNMP. Any packages that will work quickly?

I'm running SuSE 10.2 but don't mind compiling source.

Thanks.

PS - I also have a DL380 running at a remote site. Something that would work on that one is a plus also.

Maybe Gkrellm is what you need, read about it here: http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...m/gkrellm.html

You can download it from here: http://freshmeat.net/projects/gkrellm/

Thanks for the link.

That seems to be GTK-based, and I need a CLI solution.

Specifically, I need something that can be called from a Python script which will be used to parse the results and feed them into a monitoring app such as Nagios.

I tried installing the Proliant Support Pack, but the newest one is for SLES9 and seems to have some issues with my system.

Just for the record, the solution is to use the hpasm package from hp. It has a CLI tool "hplog" that can dump the IML (Integrated Log Management) data, as well as showing power supply, fan, and thermal information.

I had a long call with HP tech support, and ended up being told that for openSuSE 10.2, I should download their hpasm RPM for SLES10, for the DL380G4. This package will work on all of the older DL and ML series.

I posted some information at http://blog.jasonantman.com
if it's not there in the future, it may be moved to the main http://www.jasonantman.com site.
