Would you please clarify what you mean by "any relevant data to substantiate linux software for membership website whether free or paid"?

Your post seems highly questionable, you just registered and your first post contains a link to another site, and the question makes no sense. Linux is just an operating system, there is plenty of software available that will do just about anything you want.

As far as a membership site is concerned, how about just about any forum? They all allow for membership and for the most part run on Linux servers. That should be more than proof enough the option exists.

We are not running Linux software and we were suggested to do so by a "programmer" for more effective results.

Substantiate seems to be the wrong choice of word (make substantial, or give body to); you may be asking for evidence that other people use it, or something else; please clarify your request.

No, sorry. This is a website to help the community and the community is not helped by threads for which the response are diverted to other sites, aside from the fact that it becomes impossible to maintain a dialogue.

Assuming that the "..." is not an attempt to impute a lack of programming competence on the part of the person who made this recommendation, you would need a background in the correct use and securing of Linux to do this on an internet-facing website. It seems, even if you do have a willingness to use Linux, which you don't make clear, this is likely to be a problem that is beyond your currently level of knowledge. Are you prepared to put the work into learning?

Given the requirements that have been stated so far, what you want sounds possible using forum software, or a CMS with appropriate modules. There is much information on the 'net for doing this, both on Linux and other platforms, but here is also an appreciable amount of effort in doing it properly. It is difficult to be more specific without a more specifc question.

OK, so what are you running currently? Who is maintaining your current site? As mentioned Linux can very easily do a forum or subscription based website, but it will require knowledge by whoever administers it to make sure it is secure.
