k3b copy CD : request for empty device

Hello!
I am running Slackware Linux 10.2 with kernel 2.4.31. The k3b programme is k3b-0.12.4a-i486-1 and the KDE is 3.4.2-i486-2.
I have a cd read-only device TEAC CD-552E which is /dev/hdd and a cd-writer TEAC CD-W552E. The CD entry in my /etc/fstab file is:

/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrw auto noauto,user,ro 0 0
/dev/hdd /mnt/cdrom auto noauto,user,ro 0 0

I successfully burn to CDs, but I cannot copy CDs. When I choose "copy CD" from the tool menu, the "start" button is not active and the message in the console is:

k3b: (K3bDevice:

eviceManager) request for empty device!
k3b: (K3bDevice:

eviceManager) request for empty device!

Do you have an idea what the problem is?

while you are waiting for an answer here is easy alternative

use dd to copy the cd then burn with k3b

Pretending you put the cd into hdd the command could be

dd if=/dev/hdd of=/home/yourname/cd.iso bs=2048 conv=notrunc
