Issues installing Glib and dependencies

I'm working on creating an Amanda backup server. It's got CentOS 5.5 running on it.

I'm working on the dependencies for Amanda, one of them being Glib. I thought I had installed everything that I needed, but now I'm getting errors in the 'make' stage of Glib.

These are the last few lines of the output from the make command:

libtool: compile: gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -I.. -I../glib -I../glib -I.. -DG_LOG_DOMAIN=\"GLib\" -DG_ENABLE_DEBUG -DG_DISABLE_DEPRECATED -DGLIB_COMPILATION -DPCRE_STATIC -DG_DISABLE_SINGLE_INCLUDES -pthread -g -O2 -Wall -MT gconvert.lo -MD -MP -MF .deps/gconvert.Tpo -c gconvert.c -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/gconvert.o
gconvert.c:65:2: error: #error GNU libiconv not in use but included iconv.h is from libiconv
make[4]: *** [gconvert.lo] Error 1
make[4]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/glib-2.27.3/glib'
make[3]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/glib-2.27.3/glib'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/glib-2.27.3/glib'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/Desktop/glib-2.27.3'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I've installed and restarted libiconv, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I've even restarted the machine, along with it.

I'm at a loss here. Any ideas?

Sorry you haven't gotten a quicker response here. I'm not particularly familiar with your distribution, but . . . maybe I can offer some general guidance. It's always helpful if you can provide the versions of everything you are referencing. Are you trying to build the latest Amanda?

Is there a particular reason you aren't using `yum install glibc`? I saw some comments on the CentOS forum that installing a different version of glibc from what the distribution is based on could cause stability problems.

Also, you can get packages for Amanda at http://www.zmanda.com/download-amanda.php. The rhel5 package should work for Centos 5.5. That should make the whole process of installing Amanda and getting your server up and running much easier.
